International Campaign towards an European Convention on Access to Official Documents

European Convention on Access to Official Documents

Transparency International Romania joins in the campaign launched by Access Info Europe, Article 19 and Open Society Justice Initiative so that the European Convention on Access to Official Documents should observe international free information standards.

Should the Convention be adopted in its current form, it will be become the first international treaty to protect the freedom of information but it will do so at a level that would be lower than that set by international standards, thus rendering the progresses made in the last few years as irrelevant. The final drafting session for the Convention will take place in Strasbourg on 9-12 October 2007.

The petition can be accessed here (Romanian). You can sign the petition by sending a supporting message to any of these email addresses: helen@access-info.org, helen.darbishire@gmail.com sau treaty@access-info.org, by 26 September 2007, 17:00 hrs (CET).
