According to the survey conducted for the Global Corruption Barometer 2013, the results show that the overwhelming majority of Romanians (80%) are eager to be able to check periodically how institutions spend their public budget on their own contributions.

Thus, citizens demonstrate that they understand the meaning of public responsibility and that they are ready to use the components of social sanctions if their expectations are not met.

70% of those interviewed who show that the measures to confiscate all property that have been acquired through corruption and the state's recovery of the damage caused by persons involved in corruption are the main expectations of the anti-corruption efforts of the authorities.

Considering that the proportion of citizens who have affirmed the need to know how state institutions spend public money is higher than the percentage of citizens who have elected the parliamentary majority, TIRO considers that the transparency of the public institutions' expenditure declarations must be a priority on the governmental and parliamentary agenda for the autumn session.

Transparency International Romania asks the authorities to respond to citizens' demands and to meet the expectations of the public, immediately adopting measures to increase the transparency of the use of public resources, to demonstrate efficiency in the final and exemplary resolution of the cases of corruption discovered.
