The International Right to Know Day was set by supporters of access to information from around the world. It was first marked on September 28, 2003, and 2010 will bring its eighth international celebration. The goal of Right to Know Day is to attract worldwide attention to the right of every individual to have access to public information.
Transparency International Romania (TI-Romania) celebrates in 2011 the International Day of the Right to know by publishing a study on the transparency of Romanian courts. The study highlights the extent to which the courts, called upon to protect the citizen's right to know, when confined by the other powers of the state, respond to requests for information relating to matters relating to the administration of justice or the functioning of the courts the extent to which the courts themselves comply with the provisions of Law no. 544/2001, on free access to information of public interest.
